Introduction
Jumu’ah (Friday) is the greatest day of the week for Muslims. It is a blessed day chosen by Allah ﷻ as a weekly gathering for the Muslim community to worship, remember Him, and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood. Every Friday presents an opportunity to seek Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and countless rewards.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday.”
(Sahih Muslim)
The Virtues of Jumu’ah
1. The Best Day of the Week
Friday holds a special status in Islam. It was the day Prophet Adam عليه السلام was created, entered Paradise, and was sent to the earth. It is also the day on which the Final Hour will occur.
2. A Day of Forgiveness
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The five daily prayers, one Friday prayer to the next, and Ramadan to Ramadan are expiation for the sins committed between them, so long as major sins are avoided.”
(Sahih Muslim)
This reminds us that attending Jumu’ah sincerely is a means of Allah’s forgiveness.
3. A Special Hour When Du’a Is Accepted
Among the blessings of Friday is a special moment during which Allah accepts the supplication of His servants.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is an hour on Friday during which no Muslim asks Allah for anything good except that He grants it.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
Many scholars encourage increasing du’a in the last hour before Maghrib, while others mention the time when the imam sits until the prayer ends.
4. Increased Rewards for Good Deeds
Acts of worship performed on Friday carry immense rewards. It is an excellent day to renew one’s relationship with Allah through prayer, remembrance, charity, and acts of kindness.
Etiquettes (Adab) of Jumu’ah
To maximise the blessings of this noble day, Muslims are encouraged to observe the following Sunnah practices:

- Increase salawat (blessings) upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ throughout the day.
- Recite Surah Al-Kahf, as recommended in authentic narrations.
- Make abundant du’a, especially during the hour in which supplications are accepted.
Lessons (Hikmah)
Jumu’ah is not merely a weekly obligation—it is a weekly opportunity to renew our faith, reflect on our actions, and reconnect with Allah. It teaches discipline, unity, cleanliness, gratitude, and sincerity. Gathering with fellow Muslims reminds us that we are one Ummah worshipping one Lord.
