Becoming a Better Muslim in Conjunction with Awal Muharram

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Alhamdulillah, all praise is due to Allah SWT, who has granted us the opportunity to witness the arrival of another Hijri New Year. Awal Muharram is not merely the changing of dates on the Islamic calendar; rather, it is the perfect time for self-reflection, renewing our intentions, and striving to become better Muslims than we were in the previous year.

The Hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah teaches us that positive change requires sacrifice, patience, and sincerity. Therefore, every Muslim should ask himself:

“What have I done to draw closer to Allah during the past year, and what can I improve in the year ahead?”

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ

“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d, 13:11)

“Indeed, actions are judged by intentions.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Therefore, Awal Muharram is the best time for us to renew our intentions so that all our efforts and deeds are performed solely for the sake of Allah SWT.

May this Hijri New Year mark the beginning of positive change in our lives. May Allah SWT accept all our righteous deeds and grant us steadfastness in obedience to Him.

والله أعلم بالصواب

Happy Awal Muharram 1448H.
